Protest: Atlanta College of Art to be sold to SCAD

    Here is the article:

I am an ACA alumni and call on former students to help fight this. SCAD is widely known for it's unethical recruiting tactics, professor turnover, and poor leadership.

    Dear Alumni,

I’d like to update you on potential changes Atlanta College of Art is currently exploring.  The Board of Directors of the Atlanta College of Art has been considering the best possible ways to meet the current and future needs of ACA students.  After careful consideration, the ACA board voted on Monday, July 25 to recommend to the Board of Trustees of the Woodruff Arts Center that ACA become part of the Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta beginning summer 2006.

If approved by the WAC Board of Trustees and SCAD Board of Trustees, this action will immediately expand the facilities and academic majors available to current and future ACA and SCAD students.  The alliance will ensure continued access to world-class faculty with demonstrated academic excellence, and provide additional resources crucial to today’s academic experience.  The alliance is also expected to open new opportunities for cultural and academic programming.

In recommending this action to the Woodruff Arts Center Board of Trustees, the ACA board wants you to know that we are working diligently to ensure that the legacy of ACA continues in a variety of meaningful ways.  Areas of interest include naming of buildings, scholarships and the continuing education program as well as exhibitions of established and emerging artists.

Meetings of the Woodruff Arts Center and SCAD boards are expected during the coming weeks.  As information becomes available, it will be posted online at both www.aca.edu and www.scad.edu.

    Sincerely,
    John Spiegel
    Chairman of the Board
    Atlanta College of Art
